Blenheim Organic Farm is part of Blenheim Farm, a 400-acre farm long associated with the Washington family in Westmoreland County Virginia. Blenheim farm was established by George Washington’s family in the 18th-century and is protected with conservation easements that preserve its historic character, open spaces, farmland and wildlife habitats in perpetuity. The Latanés operate a family farm where sustainable agriculture, wildlife conservation and satisfied customers are top priorities. They grow a large variety of crops on about 15 acres, with 20 acres USDA certified organic by QCS. Selected acres are planted in cover crops to increase field fertility and attract beneficial insects. The vegetables the Latanés grow are chosen for their beauty and their flavor and include lettuce mixes, elephant garlic, spring onions, tomatoes, basil, green beans, black eye peas, sweet potatoes and specialty eggplants, to name a few, and they do succession planting to ensure a constant harvest. Blenheim Organic Gardens has been part of the Williamsburg Farmers’ Market, on Duke of Gloucester Street, since its inception in the summer of 2002.
