Producer Certified

Choose the food less traveled.
The Williamsburg Farmers Market is a manager-inspected, producer-only farmers market. Our market offers only produce and goods grown and made in Virginia. The fruits and vegetables are from local farms, the cookies and cakes are made by local bakers, and the handcrafted items like soaps are all made by local artisans using locally sourced ingredients. Shopping at WFM provides a forum for learning how food is grown, who grew it, and why it tastes so good.

Producer only
A producer-only farmers market is where producers, their family members, or employees are permitted to sell directly to consumers items they have produced.

Our Standards
The following standards were developed to ensure consumers shopping at our market purchase the best local products.

Three categories of producers are eligible to apply to sell at the Williamsburg Farmers Market:

  1. Producers of locally grown fruit and vegetables and locally raised meat, eggs, and dairy, sold directly by producers;
  2. Producers of freshly prepared foods, beverages, or other products as outlined in our guidelines;
  3. Local artisans who create high-quality goods from their plants and property.

FAQs

How are the vendors inspected?
The inspection includes the completion of a Market Application, including photos of the fruit and vegetables or animals. Paperwork will be verified to ensure the food producer, farmer, or rancher has submitted copies of insurance, certifications, and any other required paperwork from the state, city, and market.
The market manager makes an annual farm/ranch inspection, verifying that the products to be sold are from the farm or ranch, are grown for market, and that the growing methods are utilized.

How do I know which vendors are inspected?
The Market Manager currently inspects all producers.
