Karen Doyle, Lancaster County, (804) 313-7485
Karen Doyle owns and operates Georgiatown Farm, located in the scenic Northern Neck of Virginia on the Chesapeake Bay. After more than 35 years working in the gourmet food business she began farming in 2009 while in pursuit of better eating. Karen is an active member and supporter of the Livestock Conservancy, The Red Wattle Hog Association and The North American Clun Forest Association. She is dedicated to raising the very best tasting meat humanely, naturally, without expending fossil fuels, and without the use of antibiotics or growth hormones which are commonplace in commercially raised livestock.
Today, Georgiatown Farm raises and ever-increasing and diverse range of heritage livestock including Red Wattle Hogs, Clun Forest Sheep, Bourbon Red Turkeys, Laying Hens, French Red Broiler Chicken and African Geese. In 2016, Karen plans on added French Bresse chicken to the farm.
The Red Wattle Hog and Bourbon Red Turkey are included in the “Ark of Taste” which is a living catalog of delicious and distinctive American foods facing the threat of extinction. By identifying and championing these foods, the Ark of Taste strives to maintain these foods and avoid them becoming lost forever.
Karen also runs a unique chicken co-op in which members are assisted with raising meat chickens and then return to the farm for processing the birds.
Come meet this champion of sustainable farming, healthy living and humanely raising flavorsome and nutritious meat.
