Choose the food less traveled
The Williamsburg Farmers Market is a manager-inspected, producer only farmers market. Our market offers only produce and goods that are Virginia Grown. The fruits and vegetables are from local farms, the cookies and cakes made by local bakers and the handcrafted items are all made by local artisans. Shopping at WFM provides a forum for learning how food is grown, who grew it and why it tastes so good.
A Producer only farmers market is a market at which producers, their family members or employees are permitted to sell direct to consumers items they have themselves produced.
The following standards were developed to ensure consumers shopping at our market are purchasing the best local products available.
Three categories of producers are eligible to apply to sell at the Williamsburg Farmers Market:
- Producers of locally grown fruit and vegetables, and locally raised meat, eggs and dairy, sold directly by producers;
- Producers of fresh prepared foods, beverages or other products as outlined in our guidelines;
- Local artisans who create high-quality goods from their own plants and property.
How are the vendors inspected?
The inspection includes completion of a Market Application, including photos of the fruit and vegetables or animals. Paperwork will be verified to ensure the food producer, farmer or rancher has submitted copies of insurance, certifications and any other required paperwork required of the state, city and market.
An annual farm/ranch inspection is made by the market manager; verifying the products to be sold are from the farm or ranch, are grown for market as well as the growing methods utilized.
How do I know which vendors are inspected?
The Market Manager currently inspects all producers, assuring shoppers of the most authentic market in Williamsburg, Virginia.
